It's day four of the texture challenge with The Digital Dozen!  I rarely ever do anything textured on my nails-- outside of some sandy polish that is-- so I'm really loving how this week has pushed me to try new things.  When I first decided to do these denim nails I wasn't super sure how I was going to go about it.  I have this Barry M polish called "Denim" and thought it was very fitting, but even though it's gorgeous and matte and very "denim-y" as promised...it's not exactly textured. I found a super cool tutorial over at Meisie's Nails but it requires various colors and fabric and blah blah blah.  SO....I sort of went in a similar but different direction.  I used the Barry M for my base and then I dotted some diluted white on with some cling wrap. THEN I waited til it was sort of tacky but definitely mostly dry and pressed it into the underside of a pair of jeans.  The gold was sort of an afterthought.  I didn't love it after it was on but no way was I starting over!!  I do think it helped finish off the jean effect though. All in all it came out as a win for me! And it was SUPER easy. :) Don't forget to check out the other girls mani's below!

It's day two of the Texture challenge with The Digital Dozen.  The Masters ended this past week and I decided to do a little homage to the game.  Don't get me wrong, I'm not a big golf fanatic, but my husband is so it seemed fun. Besides who doesn't love the perfect grass on those courses?  A little tip if you're going to do the golf ball look; choose a really opaque white.  I couldn't find my Zoya Purity, which is usually my go to white, so I had to substitute Essie Bone Chilling which I had to use FIVE coats of to get this solid coverage. Then I used my Seche and waited until it was nearly dry to press the indents in.  Unfortunately all the layers wanted to fix themselves so I had to KEEP on pressing the holes as it dried.  It actually looked quite nice in person but towards the tip you can see some issues when the pic is blown up!  I hope you enjoy these! The Digital Dozen DOES....Texture!

So this week the theme for The Digital Dozen is texture.  I have to admit, this week didn't really excite me. I'm just not really a texture kind of girl.  However, that's one thing I love about the group, it really challenges me to think outside my box!  My day one is a bit lame looking but in person it was rather stellar.  I had some camera and lighting issues trying to capture it but hopefully from here out my lightbox will have sorted all that! At any rate these were sort of inspired by the Disney movie, Frozen.  I used an icy holographic blue and silver and then did a silver gradient on the tips to sort of mimic the winter taking over.  The silver had holo in it too but you can't really see it here. Can't win them all though, can we? I hope you enjoy anyway!! Don't forget to check out what the other ladies came up with!!

OK So I know that flocking is sort of a last season trend BUT I found this Ciate kit on clearance at a local beauty supply store and I fell in love with the deep blue color.  Of course I couldn't NOT try it with the accompanying flocking powder and last season or no...I'm in love. The color is deep so from afar it really doesn't look fuzzy so much as just sort of soft.  I didn't find the Ciate "crushed velvet" powder any different from any other nail grade flocking powder but I do like that I didn't have to play the "do I have a matching base color" game!  It stayed on really well too.  No chips for about five days which is practically a miracle given the way I use my hands at work!  At any rate, I hope you enjoyed these decidedly NON summer nails!! :)

Zoya Stevie

These Zoya Summer Pixie Dust posts are going up much more slowly than I'd have liked! But it's still summer and these bad boys are still gorgeous. So here they come anyway! This one was actually my least favorite of the bunch.  There could be a number of reasons for that! It didn't seem as sparkly to me as the others and the base seems almost milky on this one. Much more opaque than jelly as the others.  It's still pretty but it's just a sort of different vibe to me and may have gone better in the first group of Pixies.  This is two coats of Stevie and you can see that it's pretty opaque!  I do like the pastel purple shade but I'm not a big purple polish lover so I doubt Stevie will see much daylight on my nails!  It also wouldn't be as easy to layer with although you could easily layer something else over it.

Pussy Galore

This is a quick swatch post for you.  I've been trying to avoid buying ALL the textured polishes because I know it's a fad and they'll be SOOO over next season.  But I just can't seem to resist them!! This is from the James Bond Collection and it's called Pussy Galore. One thing I noticed about this one that seems different from the others is that it really looks like a pearly base with a darker pink glitter in it.  It's not really obvious from this picture but it just read as less one toned to me than the other OPI colors and I really liked that about it. I got a few of the other James Bond textures and I have to say, I think this one is one of my faves. I'm still waiting to get my hands on Honey Ryder though!

Zoya Beatrix

This is a quick post for the new Zoya Pixie collection. I don't know why but orange and coral seem to be my go to colors for this summer!  I really loved the two that Zoya has in this new collection.  Even better than that they're beautiful is that they wear like a dream.  I literally wore this manicure for seven straight days and at the end I still had to scrub to get it off.  Virtually NO chipping.  They're really pretty on the nail too. Sparkly and shimmery and in fresh, vibrant colors.  The only one I didn't love was Stevie, the purple, who is coming up later this week.  At any rate this one is Beatrix and she's the true orange of the bunch.  I'm normally not an orange person and I expected to love the blue one, Liberty, the most but I went straight for this one and it's easily one of my most favorite ones!  It's sort of a jelly-ish color (but opaque) and it has gold and orange shimmer throughout it.  It looks amazing top coated as well but I love the texture so I didn't bother with it!  Which one is your favorite?

Today's post is kind of a two-fer. It's day four of the Digital Dozen's bling week and it's also a chance to show off two of the new Zoya Pixies! These are VERY blingy but in a really nice, subtle way.  I love that they're opaque in two coats, unlike the last round of Pixie Dusts.  They're also really sparkly and even though they are textured it's not a super obvious or annoying thing. I used Liberty and Solange for this mani! Don't forget to check out what the other ladies came up with for this challenge!!




All Layered Up...

Today I have a quick post for you!  After I bought the first four colors from the Zoya Pixie Dust collection, I started to see them layering up the colors and I decided to go ahead with the other two!  This is the first layering combo I tried and it's one coat of Zoya  Dahlia and two thickish coats of Zoya Nyx.  It makes a gorgeous navy shade!  I really can't wait to play around with layering these up more and I have a really cool layering post coming up for you that will show you how to make the  most of these polishes!!  Have you tried layering the Pixies?

It's time for another Zoya Pixie swatch!! This is my favorite of the bunch, silly as it sounds! It really matched my skin tone and it just made my nails look like they had millions of diamonds on them.  It's like Britney Spears ala Toxic on your fingers!  It's really sheer just like the others but because it's a nude I stopped at two coats on this one. There is visable nail line but I think it kind of added to the effect. I'm SO super tempted to do a French mani with this one!  Maybe I still will!

Zoya Vespa

Today I have another Zoya Pixie to show you! This one is one of my favorites of the collection.  It's called Vespa and it's a lovely soft green color with silver shimmer.  It's hard to show the sparkle of these but they're very glittery in person.  Here's how Vespa looks with topcoat.


Super pretty, right?  I like that these can be worn both ways.  It's a little sheer like the other Zoya Pixie colors.  This is three thick coats of Vespa and it's especially noticeable in this picture that it's a little sheer. 


Isn't she pretty? *Swoon*
