District One: Luxury

"District 1 makes the luxury goods that decorate and beautify our great Capitol. Its excellent taste and craftsmanship keep Capitol residents bewigged and bedazzled year-round."

As the title of this blog suggests, District One is the district which supplies the Capitol with luxury items.  The residents of District One are generally described as being attractive and glamorous and are named as such.  Tributes have included Glimmer, Cashmere and Gloss.  So for this district I decided to do an accent nail of gemstones. The accent is done with a base of ManGlaze Mink Mitten and then individual gem stones glued on. I wanted the other fingers to reflect diamonds or precious metal so I used butterLONDON Diamond Geezer and then, of course, I gave them two coats of their China Glaze counterpart: Luxe & Lush.  I think they came out rather glamorous.  I'm not one for flashy nails (I know, you're shocked, no? :P) or gem stones so this was a little outside my box but I think it reflects the luxurious district well.  What do you guys think?

Guest Post: Purple Fairy Dust

You may notice that the gorgeous nails above are not mine.  That's because today's Purple Crumpet Fairy challenge was a guest post!  I was lucky enough to snatch up Claire, one of the founders of the Purple Crumpet Fairy group!! Claire is also one of my great friends and I really admire her blog and even moreso her attitude on life!  If you get a chance PLEASE check out her amazing blog over at Purple Fairy Dust: All Things Beautiful.  I promise you will NOT regret it. Not only is it filled with great artwork, (like this!), but also it's inspirational. :)  Here is Claire's post for her nails!

"Today's Spring challenge was to do a guest post with a Spring theme.  Bee and I decided to pair up and i was so glad as she is one of my best buddies! I decided to use grey for the dull days we get here in spring and then pink for the brighter more spring sun vibe :) I wanted to do a cute mani to reflect my mood recently and I love grey and pink together. I hope you like my nails and I hope bee likes them too. Happy spring time, roll on summer :) x x "

Thanks for following!! I hope you are all having a great spring! Don't forget my Hunger Games series is starting in TWO days.  It will feature nail art inspired by each of the twelve districts as well as additional art inspired by the Capitol as well as the elusive district thirteen for a total of 14 mani's.  As an additional challenge I will be using the China Glaze color which corresponds with each district from their Colors Of the Capitol collection.  I can't wait to share it with you guys! You can catch previews of several districts on my instagram (user beejustice) or on my Facebook page!

It's a Liger...

So the other day I was trying to come up with a stellar nail design AND....I failed.  I just couldn't get my mind into a good 'nail art' kind of place.  So...I decided to clean for awhile and then come back to it.  While cleaning I stumbled upon a sparkly pink Betsey Johnson box from a necklace my wonderful husband bought me for...well...I'm not sure. For being an amazing wife?  Anyway I really liked the pink glittery effect so I decided to go with that for my nails.  Sometime after that the leopard print just came into my head.  I do a lot of leopard print anymore and really, though it looks cool and intricate on the nail, it's turned into a sort of lazy day mani for me!!  This one was done with all glitter!! It doesn't get more bling than that! Hope you all enjoy and thanks again for following!!

Free Swag: Stuck Like Glue Giveaway!!

I have so many great things planned over the next few months for this blog.  I definitely want to start sharing some of the tips I've picked up at school for nail care with you guys. Polish can really wreck your nails if you aren't careful and aren't taking good care of them to start.  I have a series of nail care blogs planned each of which will end with giveaway's but in the mean time I wanted to thank those of you who have been with me since the beginning!! This is a small giveaway, but let me just say that I LOVE these magnetic polishes and they're really easy to use which can make instant nail art a reality even for the worst of us!  Winner will get China Glaze Magnetix in Cling On and You Move Me plus a China Glaze magnet pack and some random goodies. The giveaway is open internationally but please know that I can't be responsible for what happens to polishes when they cross the pond. :)  I've never had it happen, but I also will leave any fee's associated with customs up to the winner so if you're not from the states please be sure to check your import laws before entering. The giveaway will end on April 14th and the winner will be announced on the 15th!  Good luck guys and thanks again so much for following!!

X marks the spot

Tuesday's challenge for the Purple Crumpet Fairy Spring challenge was Spring stripes.  As you can tell, I'm a bit behind on the challenge at the moment since this is going up on a Friday! But you win some you lose some and as I'm working on some exciting things for my blog (like a giveaway soon!) I think it's OK to fall behind a little bit.  I'm also heading into my last week (or two days rather) of Nail Tech school and I'm really excited to get my business cards circulating and start a new career doing something I love and am so passionate about!  But on to the nails!  I started with a base coat of butterLONDON Scoundrel, a gorgeous pinky purple.  Then I taped of some stripes on my accent nail and used butterLONDON Lady Muck to create the accent.  I was surprised how much I ended up liking these two colors together. Lady Muck is rather pale and muted while Scoundrel is fairly bold.  But it worked out well in the end. Hope you enjoy and thanks so much for following!

Royal Matte-astrohpe

These nails were sort of inspired by a design I found in a nail art magazine.  They're also an attempt on my part to start using some of the million 3-D nail art supplies I currently own!  I don't know what it is about rhinestones and beads and stickers but I just can't seem to get motivated to use them. Could be that I change my nails every other day?  At any rate I started with a base of ManGlaze Royal Matterimoaning.  Royal Matterimoaning is a velvety navy blue with a ridiculous amount of shimmer to it.  It's SO gorgeous both matte AND shiny which is one thing I love about ManGlaze.  There is no wrong way to wear them!  They also have an incredibly lush formula. This is one coat of Royal Matterimoaning and it lasted with ZERO topcoat and no chips for almost four whole days.  That's a record for me with most non-matte polishes so to have a matte perform that well for me is a win.  I used Revlon White on White and a nail art brush to paint on the swirly design at the top. I left it gem free for a good while but then I felt like it was missing something so I popped a rhinestone on.  I hope you all enjoy and thanks for following!! :)

I Want Candy...

Today's Purple Crumpet Fairy Challenge was subtle glitter or flakie bomb.  I have to admit...I have no subtle glitters!  I thought about doing a color/color glitter. Just gold glitter over a gold polish or the like.  I also debated using the one semi-subtle glitter I have, a Deborah Lippmann gold glitter.  But...I just didn't like the effect. So I went in a different direction. It's not really glitter...or flakies...and it's not terribly subtle. But it's darn cool and it screams Spring.  I've seen these in a lot of different places and I'm reading that they're going to be the next big thing (in fact, some companies will reportedly be selling kits to DIY this at home with!).  They look wicked cool but I was worried about the wear ability of it.  Actually, this was super easy and it didn't chip off or get caught on everything like I thought it would.  I would like to find a way to topcoat it more thoroughly though because those little buggers are SHARP and I scratched my skin up a bit with them!  Nothing serious, no broken skin mind you but enough for it to annoy me. Anyway the base on these is China Glaze Sweet Hook and Kinetic Candy.  I held my nails over a bowl and mixed up a bunch of Martha Stewart glass beads which I then sprinkled over the semi-wet polish.  I lightly top coated with Seche Vite but you really have to be careful top coating because it can leave holes or come out SUPER SUPER thick on your nail.  I hope you all enjoy and thanks for following!!

How do you feel about my candy nails?

****UPDATE: Ciate has trademarked the term 'Caviar manicure/Caviar nails' and is now forbidding bloggers to use the term. I have removed all mention of "caviar mani" from my blog as per request.****
