As you all know, it's small nails month on my blog and I wanted to show you some of my most favorite bloggers who wear their nails shorter for this month! Hi there, I’m Kerrie and I blog over at PishPosh and Polish, I really pleased that I am able to guest post over at Bee Polished, not only is Bee on of my blogging besties but she is also a fellow short-nail blogger!

 

I am really glad Bee is doing this series of post to celebrate shorter nails because from my personal experience, they normal get a lot of hate in the nail blogging community.   So lets get this out of the way shall we? I’m never going to have long nails! In fact these photos show my nails at the longest they have been in a while! Why is that? Well I play Guitar and I cannot fret at all with long nails. About two years ago when I started my blog and nail polish started to become a bigger deal for me I had to make the choice, do I blog and stop playing the guitar or stop my blog before I had even started it? Well I chose a happy medium and two years later I am really pleased with how my little blog has progressed and I have lots of loyal followers who don’t care about my nubbins!

 

 

 

But saying that you will always get hate when you have short nails, and this really upset me. I was really lucky recently to get featured on the Zoya Facebook page and I was so thrilled about it and then I got this comment “errgh, why do people who bite their nails take photos?”, um... hello? When does shorter nails automatically equate to biting them? I mean honestly! I’ve learnt to embrace my shot nails and I’m sure if you are still reading this you do too!

 

The phrase my mother always taught me comes to mind “do unto others as you want done unto you”- basically BE NICE!

 

 

So today’s manicure is my first attempt at a sponge gradient and I really love the result. I have used a base of Fashionista Mystical Dragon which is a brand I think you can only get here in the UK, it is a lovely blue toned teal with lots of yummy glass flecks. I then used a sponge to dab on Revlon Rainforest to my tips which is a darker green which also is jammed packed with glass flecks. The two colours really merge together well and looks lovely and decadent on the nail!

 

I think a gradient really has the effect of elongating shorter nails, it looks really elegant!

 

Anyway I want to say thanks for Bee for letting me post on her blog and feel free to pop over to PishPosh and Polish and say Hi. I would love to hear your opinions on shorter nails and the way blogging can sometimes have a nasty streak! If you have haterz (whether you have short nails or not!) please don’t let it get you down, blog for yourself and as long as you are happy polishing it really doesn’t matter!

It's day three of the Digital Dozen Book Week challenge.  I'm trying to get through all my most favorite books for this challenge but let's face it, there are way more than five of those!! For this one I went a little further back into my childhood years.  I believe I was eight the first time I read this book and even today it's still one of my favorites.  If you haven't recognized it yet, it's The Phantom Tollbooth.  One of the things I love about this book is that it's very logical while at the same time seeming very illogical!  It tells the story of a boy named Milo and his journey though strange lands with a dog called Tock.  I used my ring finger to represent the map of the Kingdom of Wisdom.  There were so many lands to choose from but I only have so many fingers!! So I went with just two and then added a clock for Tock on my middle finger.  For the index I have the top half numbers and the bottom half words to represent Dictionopolis, one of the capitols of the Kingdom and where Milo learns of the princesses, Rhyme and Reason and learns that they've been banished for their belief that numbers and letters are of equal importance.  Then on the pinky finger I have some numbers to represent Digitopolis, where Milo eats subtraction soup which makes him even hungrier!  I hope you enjoy the nails and don't forget to journey over to my fellow ladies pages to see what they've come up with for todays challenge!!

Today's Purple Crumpet Fairy Challenge was ducklings.  I thought I had a pretty good idea for this one, but it turned out less than cute on my nails.  I just really don't think yellow and orange flatter my skin tone...and the ducky's eyes are a bit...I don't know...weirder than I envisioned!  But still I think you can tell that they're ducklings and that's half the battle!! I used ManGlaze Butt Taco as a base coat.  It's a GORGEOUS suede orange with little micro orange shimmer in it.  It looks stunning matte as well as shiny but it's just not doing anything for my pale skin!  I then used Color Club Almost Famous to make a reverse french so that my ducks would have little bills.  And last I used Revlon White On White and Hard Candy The End to dot on breathing holes and eyes!  I hope you all enjoy and thanks for following!! Today's Spring Challenge was Unicorn Magic Day!  The challenge was to make your mani magical.  I didn't want to do a full on unicorn on my nails -- well OK I did -- but I didn't really have the time or inclination to attempt it!! So I did some magical type colors anyway.  This mani reminds me a bit of those velvet posters everyone used to hang on their walls in the 80's.  The background is loads of fun colors, the foreground is leopard (which is just awesome let's face it) and the matte topcoat gave it a washed out jeans type effect.  VERY magical!  I hope you all enjoy and thanks again for following!! 

PS.  I'm REALLY working on my cuticles for you all!! I've had TWO paraffin dips this week AND I'm keeping a constant stream of Neosporin and cuticle oil on them. They look TONS better already!!

So I pretty much totally slacked off on the Halloween nails and I wanted to try to make up for it on Thanksgiving!   When I thought of Thanksgiving the first thing that came to my mind is those handprint turkeys that everyone makes at some point during their childhood. You know, trace your hand, draw feathers on the fingers and a turkey head on the thumb?  So I instantly thought that was what I wanted to do.  But then I kept thinking about it and it seemed like something everyone else would be doing.  So I asked my go-to person (my wonderful husband) what he thought I should do.  He said, 

"Why don't you make your fingers feathers and then do a turkey head on your thumb?" 

So I thought, if both of us think it's a good idea, it must not be half bad!  I searched the web this morning and was surprised that I actually couldn't find any turkey nails like mine.  So I'm glad I chose to do them after all!! Choosing the colors was the hardest part.  I wanted pastels at first but it just didn't jive with the fall vibe so I ended up with red, yellow, green and orange.  I hope you all have a wonderful holiday (those of you who celebrate) and are able to enjoy time with your families! :)

Kineizukun is a little squirrel (yeah I know it seems like he should be a raccoon!) who LOVES to clean!  I love to clean too which makes Kineizukun and I a good match!  He's a relatively new San-X addition but SO cute!  I did the ring finger as his little tail and the thumb as his face. :) Hope you're enjoying getting to know my favorite San-X characters this week!
