It's day two of the Digital Dozen Decades challenge and that means we're on to the swinging 60's!  I LOVE the 60's.  I love the music and the fashion and the boldness.  It was a time when people were starting to be more free about things and it really showed!!  I decided to go for the mod look today with some bright, neon color blocking. This mani surprised me a little because I thought it was going to take tons of time and I ended up being done with it in less than 15 minutes. Of course I free handed because I'm no good at all with tape! So it could probably stand to be a bit more precise but all in all I really liked it.  For fun, here's a Cutex ad from 1967!!

Well it's finally here! It's October and this year October is the month of the SMALL NAIL on Bee Polished!! On Saturday, I told you how I had nubbinized my nails for job interviewing. As they're growing back to their medium/short length, I want to show you all how much fun shorter nails can be!  This is a perfect time to do this because NYFW just happened and if you surf for nail art from the event you'll notice that all the models have short, rounded nails. Very classic and very versatile.  This is actually a look from last years fashion week but I love it.  It works really well on shorter nails because the ratio of the neon to white is much better. I love brighter colors anyway on a short nail because I feel like it's not as flashy as on longer nails! Plus this look is wickedly easy to achieve and because the color is concentrated at the ends, it can actually draw the attention up and make shorter nails less stubby looking, especially if you have wider nail beds!  I hope you all have fun exploring the world of short nails with me this month! Following my not so awesome results with the chevron patterns, I decided to try again with a different approach.  This time I chose a houndstooth pattern for the monotone side and then for a pop I used neon for the stripe. I went for more of a half and half split this time around too. I really like the idea of just the thin line up the side for the pop of color but I also really like neons for summer so I wanted a little MORE of the pop!  I think these are my favorite of the two even though they really turned out very different in the end. I hope you all enjoy them! :)

It's time for another week with the Digital Dozen! This week we're doing tape mani's! For those of you who don't know, a tape mani is when you use tape (striping or otherwise) to make a design on your nails.  I LOVE the way some people can manipulate tape and make these stellar, super intricate designs BUT...I am not one of them. I lack the patience for one thing and for another, I'm decent at making straight lines with a striping brush so I just never really saw the point.  However, the point of this challenge is to...well...CHALLENGE myself. So I have forced my way through this week for you anyway!  I know some of the other ladies will have AMAZING things for you so you'll just have to bear with me and not judge too harshly. :P

So for this manicure I used the tape to section off the two sides of color, before running a white line over the place where the line was.  I added the yellow stripes kind of as an afterthought and almost wish I hadn't because they're not as bright as I'd intended. I still loved this though and I LOVE the neon nail polishes Funky Fingers is churning out this season. Fabulous. This is a quick mani I did for Valentines Day.  It's been nice out here lately which is out of character for this time of year! So I was feeling very Spring-like and wanted to use brighter colors.  These are my Color Club Poptastic colors again.  I'm in love with that collection.  A good friend got the set for my birthday last year and I literally use them all the time.  I also love that I've found this technique for making them more pastel so that now I can use them as neons and pastels! Anyway the idea of this manicure is scribbled hearts that are sort of scribbled in with color too!  I love the way it came out!!  What's on your nails for the holiday?

Here we go with day three of the Digit-al Dozen art challenge. Today's mani is inspired by graffiti.  I actually quite like graffiti.  I know it's basically vandalism but I think it's really interesting to see the different styles and types.  Street art is usually inspired by a very different muse than classic art.  That said I'm not super great AT graffiti.  My husband used to draw fat graffiti letters which were really cool but I failed at recreating them.  So this is a sort of lame attempt but I liked the results anyway!  I used a suede base to emulate concrete and then used a series of neons and some black and white polish to create the letters.  I used a matte top coat over the whole of it since I felt it looked more graffiti-like!  Don't forget to check on the other girls art work for today's challenge!

So recently I decided to try out a splatter mani.  I started with a white base and then splattered Orly Glowstick, a ridiculously bright yellow, over the top.  But...I didn't love it. It was too subtle and the splatter wasn't quite what I thought it was going to be.  So I decided to play with putting something over the top to mask the messy splatter and salvage my mani!  I ended up with these stripes.  I started with horizontal stripes but after I got two on I decided I didn't love it so I went with diagonal and then decided I liked the look of the contrasting stripes and the neon boldly peeking through the cracks!  This was one that even caught my husbands attention so I know I did something right! :P  Have you tried a splatter mani?

It took me a little while to jump on the neon bandwagon.  I've seen a lot of people with the neon nails and to be honest, I LOVE the look on people with a bit of color but on myself...I just don't know.  I feel like I'm too pale to carry it off.  That said after hauling a huge amount of them for some friends I couldn't resist picking up a few for myself.  I first used them in a much more subtle mani with just some neon stripes running through black.  But I've finally bitten the bullet and done a proper mani with neon! So here they are!  Kitty pirate neon nails!  I actually quite liked these nails in the end and as a bonus my camera did a really decent job at picking up the neon color!  They were SUPER bright!  I hope you all enoy them!

Today's mani was a 'good luck' mani for me! I had a big practical test coming up to see if I would be able to go on commission and get out of training for my new job and I wanted to do something that was sort of business in the front, party in the back!  Lol...this mani combines my favorite neutral, professional color with a SUPER fun crazy neon nail.  Surprisingly, it's a look I've seen kind of trending recently.  I decided to matte them all to make it a little bit more off beat and also because it really made the neutral color seem more natural.  I'm still working on keeping polish on my nails on the job and I found that using this color worked out really well since I can tell when it's coming off but it's not super noticeable to the clientele.  At any rate I used butterLONDON Tea With the Queen for the nuetral nails and China Glaze I'm With the Lifeguard for the neon.  :)  Enjoy!!

So now that I'm working it's becoming increasingly difficult to keep my nails polished. :(  It's not that we aren't allowed, it's just that when you're removing polish all day long, your own seems to eat the dust as well. So I'm trying something out.  On Monday, I polished JUST my ring and pinky finger.  When I got home from work, my ring was a TAD smudged. Just a little bit but enough.  So I re-polished.  Today I had my polished removed for a mani for a trainee so I guess I'll have to resume the experiment tomorrow, but the idea is that when I come home with the ring completely pristine then I'll polish the middle and keep going until I'm able to keep all my polish nice for my procedures.  It's work, don't get me wrong, but work well worth it!! So here's my mini polish job!!  The base is Revlon White on White followed by two coats each of the China Glaze Neons* and then some striping tape, a coat of Revlon Black Lingerie, and voila!! Neon nails!! Enjoy and thanks for following!!
