China Glaze


It's St Patricks Day! I really LOVE green and I always get excited to do manicures for today BUT....I realized when going through my collection this year that I really don't have many green creme polishes. I have plenty of glitters, shimmers and other such goodies, but not anywhere near enough cremes.  In either event I threw a few China Glaze polishes together with one of my favorite glitters of all time, Dollish Polish The Hero of Time. I think it came out rather nice and subtle. One of those mani's I could carry over into tomorrow if I were feeling sort of lazy. ;) I hope everyone has a happy holiday and stays safe!

So today's brand post is both inside AND outside the box. The design of it is quite straightforward but then it's not really very obvious to anyone looking what the brand is.  Have you guessed it yet? 


It's for Morton Sea Salt!  I had the container on my counter and thought the design was really pretty. It ended up being a great week to unveil it!!  Even though the brand logo is the little girl with the umbrella, all the Morton  brand salt products include the navy so I think it still works! ;) Check out what the other ladies came up with below! These are the nails I actually wore on Valentines Day.  I've done heart shaped leopard before and I loved it so I decided to do it again with some different colors. What I love about it is that it's not so OBVIOUSly Valentines themed. It's pink and has hearts but from a distance it's kind of just pink leopard.  I love holiday's and themed nails but I don't always have time to change it right away and for that reason I really love that these transition right into regular life instead of looking stale. I used a new OPI glitter I picked up for the accent nail.  I'm not super in love with it so it may be headed for my blog sale. It's just sort of...meh.  Anyway I hope you're all having a good weekend! Have you tried heart shaped leopard yet?

It's Raining Hearts...

This was one of the looks I sported for Valentines Day this year.  I'll be honest and say I really don't get super into Valentine's Day.  I'm not big on pinks or hearts or girly girl type looks like that!  But I wanted to have some fun with it anyway.  I wanted it to look sort of like it was raining hearts from the sky!  It kind of works two ways as well because the hearts look like rain drops upside down and then right side up it just looks like little hearts and lines. :) I hope you all had a great Valentines Day and gave and received lots of love!

It's the final day of vintage week with The Digital Dozen!! Today I modeled my design after some vintage china tea cups I have which I love.  I think this one came out pretty much exactly like I wanted except for maybe that the flowers are a bit more dark than I anticipated.  I also love the way the chrome looks here. I've just nearly captured it's super shiny, reflective finish here and it really mimicked the platinum ring on my cups perfectly! This picture is quite dark but it's the china which inspired me:

It's Day Four of the Digital Dozen Vintage Week!! I can't believe this week has nearly ended already! It seems like it's only just begun.  So these nails are actually the second ones I did for the week but for some reason I ended up liking them more than the ones that came after! That's how it always goes isn't it?  Anyway these are sort of based on those old circus tents. My husband said they reminded him of Water For Elephants which wasn't really what I was going for but fits nonetheless! I hope you enjoy them! It's day two of Vintage Week with The Digital Dozen and today I went with a pretty abstract 70's kind of theme. I was going for kind of a pine wood look with some fun stripes. I liked it in the end but this is also one of those times when I wish I'd stopped long before I did! I really loved the ring finger but then once they all had stripes I kind of felt it was too much! Oh well, in the end it still had the effect I was looking for! Reminds me of 70's pine paneled walls and furniture!

The Digital Dozen does...VINTAGE!

You'll have to excuse my absolutely horrific photography this week! I don't have a lightbox and since moving it's been difficult to find a great light source. Especially with the completely DISMAL weather we've had of late. Hopefully I can find a good balance soon! But for now, apologies, you deserve better! At any rate this week is vintage week with The Digital Dozen and I'm so excited about it because I LOVE vintage. I still have a record player, wear vintage clothing and jewelry and I love old music, films, etc. So this week I had no shortage of inspiration.  Today's nails are inspired by those old 50's era appliances with their minty color and chrome accessories!  I wanted a sort of 50's pattern as well but I couldn't find anything that I felt truly was what I wanted so I settled on this sort of mod circular look!  All in all they came out rather well.  I used the new chrome polish from the OPI Gwen Stefani collection and while I LOVE the way it looked (wish I could've captured the finish on this one!) I didn't top coat it and it started sort of rubbing off like lead from a pencil about three days in. Still a cool look though! I hope you enjoy! So these are probably the most intricate nails I've done in quite some time.  They are loosely based on a French Connection dress I saw on Tia Mowry.  I spotted it again later on Mindy Kaling and I was like, OK this is happening...


Cute right? A lot of it is sequins which catch the light differently depending on how the photo is taken and I didn't really Google the dress until after the fact! I saw it first on Tia's Instagram which no doubt was filtered so the colors were really vibrant in contrast to when Mindy wore it. I went more with the vibrant color palette of the dress in the photo from Tia's Instagram. I felt it was better paired with the white than the muted tones. But I suppose it's sort of an abstract take. I really loved the purple and pink flowers so I started with those and then filled in the rest with some glitter and black to make it similar to the dress. Also how cute is Mindy in this pic? I love her. Her show is not really funny but I still love her. Lol...I hope you enjoy the art! Thanks for following along!

Well it's been just over a month with no internet but FINALLY I've got it all sorted! Now that we're all settled into our new place I can't wait to get back to posting more frequently! Let's face it, this girl NEEDS to polish her nails!  They've been so sad and polish-less for the past month.  Although I must say I snagged the Gwen Stefani for OPI collection a week or so ago and I'm LOVING the colors. The satins are must haves! The metallic is also wicked cool. I also picked up the glitter (like I needed another holo glitter) and the pink (cause I wear SO much pink) so I can't wait to use them in some designs!  Until that's all ready to go though, here are some nails I did back in December which haven't made an official blog appearance yet!  I really love this Argyle glitter and I wanted to use it with a gradient cause for some reason I'm kind of digging the whole glitter/gradient look right now. Also, with a lot of combo's you can do this in like, five minutes with ZERO tools.

 


Of course, with a bulky glitter like this one, that's not really so easy to do! But I enjoyed the final look anyway! Thanks to all of you for sticking with me through the ups and downs lately! So these nails aren't exactly festive but they make me smile! When I was a kid we used to play the crap out of our Nintendo.  Of course by the time we got one in our house, the Playstation was already the new big thing and Nintendo games were far from new.  Still, we didn't love it any less! Some of our favorites (outside of the obvious Mario and Zelda!) were Lolo, Tetris AND...this gem; Dr. Mario. My mother STILL loves this game and plays it on her DS! I thought since my nails were rounded and the absolute perfect shape for pills I'd give it a go!
 
 
Honestly it was remarkable easy to do as well. Even the little monsters weren't as bad as I'd assumed they'd be though they didn't come out spectacular. I hope you love these as much as I do! What was your favorite game growing up?

It's day two of Skittle Week with The Digital Dozen!  Today I opted to do something a little outside the box. I saw some tree nails on The Nail Network and I decided to sort of recreate them in a seasonal pattern! So from left to right we have Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter!  I used all Zoya* polishes for this which in retrospect might not have been the greatest idea because the red color I chose, Cheryl, was a little less RED than I thought and turned out more brownish on my Fall nail. For today's post I have another recreation of a New York Fashion Week look. This is a simple reverse french. Nude on the top, white at the base. I love this look for a few reasons.  One: It's really edgy and fun.  Two: It's stupid easy. And three: it really works to your advantage if you have smaller nails, ESPECIALLY if they're rounded. Because the focus is at the base of the nail, this draws the eyes away from the short tip. Also, because the rest of the nail is kept nude and the rounded shape and embellished lunula make the nail appear to be more narrow and long.  It's really a win/win!  It reminds me of a look I did last year around the holidays with glitter sponged at the base of a nude nail.


The second look is a bit more subtle and a little more girly but the idea is the same. It really creates the illusion of a longer nail.

...except today it IS! It's day nine of the Digit-al Dozen's celebration series, The Digit-al Dozen, Does it All Again! Today is ALL about the BLING! Last time we did bling week I was so uninspired. Don't get me wrong, I do like sparkly pretty things but I just get so overwhelmed at the amount of bling-y things I have and then I have no idea what to do with them. This time was a bit of a happy accident. I had intended to use this mani during Fashion Week but then put it aside to squeeze in another one and...well...its QUITE bling-y! This is based on a Christian Siriano design which I LOVE but wish were a bit shorter!!

So it's day two of Fashion Week with the Digit-al Dozen and today I have a design based on another of my favorite designers for you. This design is based on a Stella McCartney gown from 2012. She frequently uses sheer cutouts in her designs which can easily become sort of racy but she manages to keep them very classy and fun.  I love Stella's designs because they're bold and cutting edge but also tend to be mostly monochrome and usually black or black and white. I also love her as a person because she's so environmentally concious and animal friendly! Here's the dress I based these nails off of:

The Digit-al Dozen does....Fashion!

It's fashion week at the Digit-al Dozen! I had sort of an abundance of ideas this week but I wanted to sort of incorporate some of my favorite designers into it and so I had to really edit myself!  I really love designs which are clean and classic but also girly and modern.  One of the people who I feel really combines the two effortlessly is Christian Siriano.  I really loved him on Project Runway and since his win I've continued to follow him and am a HUGE fan of his designs.  I like that they're classy and vintage inspired but also modern and glamorous.  This nail art didn't come out precisely how I wanted it too but I think it sums up the particular look I was going for at any rate! The inspiration for the nails was this runway look:

These are some quick nails I did last week.  They were meant to come out a little differently but I think they ended up working anyway! I started out using tape to tape off the triangles. The blue is the only which ended up taped though as I'm just not near patient enough to continue that way!  I used the Color Club Poptastic Collection for these and it's hard to tell from the picture but there are two distinct pinks in the collection. I tried to keep one pink box smaller on each nail so as not to create an overwhelming pink design! I hope you all enjoy them!

Well....what can I say about today? I had good intentions. I really wanted this to turn out differently than it ended up turning out. I think half the problem is that I did it basically in the dark and all freehand. Apologies for the lighting as well, it's been SUPER rainy here lately.  At any rate. These were inspired by an iPad case I saw on Instagram.  I really love chevrons, they're one of my favorite patterns.  But they're tricky to do freehand because you need to be sure the spacing is on and they're not less tricky when you have to stop 3/4 of the way across!  I think they came out OK but later in the week I got the idea to do them over again in better light. You can see what transpired with that if you tune back in on Friday! I ended up going in a bit of a different direction after I got started! I hope you enjoy these anyway! :)

Who Are You Wearing: Graffiti Art

It's time for another post in my Who Are You Wearing? blog series!  To remind you (it's been WAY too long!) in each WAYW post I will be copying the nail art of a famous person for you to see.  Even though these celebs are getting their digits professionally dressed up, most of the art they're getting is totally accessible to even  beginner artists!  I'm going to show you the celebrity nails, tell you what you need to have and do to achieve them (in extreme cases I'll be telling you how you can wear the trend at home) and then show you the recreation of the nails.  So here we go with the number twp in the series!!

This is graffiti art that a certain young, trendsetting starlet sported a few months  back. I love that it's sort of dark and almost Halloween like but also totally colorful and fun! It looks sort of complex but it's really just lines and blobs so this is one of those art projects that you absolutely cannot screw up! So what will you need to achieve the art? You'll need a black, green, purple, and blue polish and a white striper. They've used a pearly white in the picture but I went with a simple, stark white. You will also need a sponge (I used a triangle makeup sponge).  Start by polishing all nails black and then top coating and allowing that to dry. I used Seche Vite so I was ready for step 2 in 15 minutes.  Next add the white stripes using a striper brush. If you like, you can top coat that nail because it's done!  Then work on adding the colors. I started by sponging white onto my pinky and middle nail.  Make sure to wipe most of the polish off the sponge before you apply it to the nail. You want it cloudy and spotty not opaque.  Then use either the sponge or just the brush (I used the brush) to splodge green and purple bits onto the index and pinky nail.  Your pinky is done at this point so again, you can top coat if you wish. On the middle finger, add a splodge of blue (I used a purple/blue shift for some added flare). Then use your striper to add the design to the index finger and the star to your middle finger (you can stamp if you want it more uniform). Top coat and...voila! Done! I kept the thumb black with colored spots like the pinky but that's your call again, it's not shown. Here is my recreated version:

You can see that I used a more solid white and that I also used a color shift on my middle finger. I think these could be awesome with a matte top coat as well but of course they won't last as long!  So who is the lovely lady I copied these nails from?

In a MINT-ute...

Well it's the final day of the Digital Dozen's tape mani challenge week. For today I wanted to use tape in a different way and this is one of my favorite color combo's! I had some gold nail strips on hand anyway that I received in a swap ages ago. I used the other half of the box on accent nails so I decided to use these in a new way! I used some fancy scissors and cut them into shapes. Then I adhered them on top of the polish and top coated to finish. The finished look was really stunning! I have to say, this week has challenged and very much inspired me. Some of the things the other ladies did are just out of this world. I definitely want to try to experiment more with tape! I hope it inspired some of you as well! Don't forget to check out their amazing designs for today!
