Feelin' Foxy...

It's the final day of Autumn Week with The Digital Dozen!! These weeks seem to just fly by, don't they?  For today I went a little outside the box and decided to do this foxy manicure.  I really have no idea how foxes play into Autumn but for some reason now that fall is here I see them everywhere. I don't mean live ones either!  I've never done fox nails before and my sister sent me a picture of some the other day so it seemed like a good time to try it out!  I did most of my nails like little fox tails because of the shape and then I did just the one with a little fox face.  These were really quite a bit easier than I anticipated so it's possible I may incorporate more foxes into my art!  I hope you had fun with us during Autumn Week! Splash into Autum!

It's day four of Autumn Week with The Digital Dozen. Today I have a splash mani for you! I tried this technique for the first time during the last Digital Dozen week and I LOVE IT.  It's really fun to mix and match it and it's so stupid easy to do it's not even funny.  This time I did two colors for the splash and I mixed up my stamps a bit so my accent has much more coverage than the other nails.  I wanted it to incorporate the changing of summer into Autumn but I think maybe I should've done the colors in the opposite direction because it kind of looks more like Autumn blending into Spring! It's day three of Autumn Week with The Digital Dozen!!  Today I have this fun repeating leaf pattern for you!  Sometime back I did a look sort of like this with several shades of flowers overlapping one another. It's still a favorite of mine and it was also one of the mani's I did when I started doing Flashback Friday art.  This was another one where I started out with a different direction and then ended up coming round to this one.  I'm basically obsessed with white nails and I'm trying to break out of that some but it's just not working! :P  Anyway I hope you enjoy these and don't forget to check out the other ladies art below!!

It's day two of Autumn Week with The Digital Dozen and today I have these cute acorn nails for you.  Somehow my matte topcoat got sort of smooshy and two of my nails have a bit of a texture to them but overall I really loved this design. You all know how much I LOVE to squeeze leopard prints into these challenges and for me this was sort of a play off the leopard print.  Also like leopard print, this manicure is SUPER easy and only requires a dotting tool. Definitely a win!! This is one of those mani's I was talking about where I started off with something that was a complete fail-tastic mess and then re-did it and ended up here. The Digital Dozen DOES...Autumn!!

It's time for another week with The Digital Dozen!! This week we're doing Autumn themed nails.  I was so excited about this theme and then when it crept up somehow I lost all my motivation. Then I ended up doing a bunch of looks which were sort of fails and then I had to re-do them and....well they're at least close to being wins! ;P  Here's my first look!




On Thanksgiving a few years ago I did a turkey themed look using my nails as feathers with my thumb as the turkey head.  So from that I sort of sprung up this idea to do leaves.  My nails are a perfect shape for this but the only issue for me was that it came out a bit too similar to the feathers. :/  However, there is a win in there too because I am one of those people who love holiday nail art but HATE that it really has to be removed the next day or it looks kind of dated. :/ So you can wear your turkey for a day and then swap out your thumb for a leaf and voila! Thanksgiving to fall with only two nails to change! :)  I hope you enjoy these! Don't forget to check out the other ladies art below!

The Digital Dozen Does...Metal!

It's time for another Digital Dozen challenge! This week we're doing metal!  You can definitely take that a lot of different ways but I went fairly straightforward today.  I wanted this to sort of emulate flatware but without being super obvious and I'm quite happy with the way they turned out.  I'm still figuring out my new camera but I hope that soon I'll have it down and be able to capture the stunning finish of this OPI chrome finish. It's incredibly shiny and reflects light and color in a super cool way.  It's definitely a must have polish in my book! I hope you enjoy these simple nails today! I Love the 80's!!

So it's day four of The Digital Dozen decade challenge and today I'm hitting the 1980's.  For this theme day I went with a few different things! I started with a pastel water marble with some holographic glitter and then added some shapes and topped them with a galaxy.  On my index, which is my accent here...I went with some holographic stripes through the galaxy.  I wish the holo had been more apparent in this but the weather has been sort of not great for glitter. :(  After I completed this masterpiece of art I showed it to my husband who promptly asked me what it had to do with the 80's.  To that I say THIS:

The Digital Dozen DOES...Decades!!

1950's


It's time for another week of art with The Digital Dozen!! This week we're doing a decades theme which is exciting news for me because I LOVE throwback designs.  I decided to do some ascending decade art so today we're starting with the good old 1950's and by weeks end we'll be up to the 90's.  Today's design really didn't come out how I'd intended at all.  It's rather sad really but I got a lot of compliments anyway so I'm hoping that it's one of those times when I'm being much harder on myself than is entirely warranted.  The idea was a chrome logo across a cherry red background.  Example:


The text is where I really lost it though.  It should have run together a bit differently.  Still I think the idea works!  I hope you all enjoy it too!  For fun here's a 1950's nail polish ad for you!

Well it's the final day of black and white week with The Digital Dozen.  Honestly when the theme first came up all I could think of were all the black and white films I so love watching! But I wanted to have a variety for the week so I tried to narrow it to just a few!  It occurred to me somewhere a long the way that one thing I love just as much as old films are films whose stories are told both in black and white AND color. Pleasantville, The Giver, The Wizard of Oz...I'm sure there are others but The Wizard of Oz is I'm sure one of the most recognizable black and white to color films there is. SO...I decided to do a little play on it and do a black and white to color design based loosely on the film. I did a field of poppies as my design so it would be something recognizable but simple as to not take away from the fade.  I hope you enjoyed the artwork this week! Shades of Grey

It's day four of Black and White week with the Digital Dozen.  Today I went kind of simple.  I have like, A MILLION shades of grey in my collection. I don't know why.  I mean, obviously I love the color but there aren't a whole lot of uses for that many shades of grey and I can't remember having ever just polished a flat grey nail.  So today I decided to put them to good use!  I pulled out an oldie but goodie, Cover Band's Sticks and Stones, and threw it over the top for a bit of pizzazz and then I matted the whole thing. I actually really loved how it came out. I got a lot of compliments on it despite how drab it seems!  Maybe it's just that time of year! :)  Please don't forget to check out what the other ladies came up with and stay tuned for tomorrow's final design!


The Writings on the Wall

It's day three of Black and White week with The Digital Dozen. Today's nails aren't really black and white but are more a play on words.  It's "right there in black and white" is a phrase people use frequently and so I wanted to do these black and white words on paper. I had a lot of fun with these and it reminds me of how much I really love writing myself! I used to write a lot of short stories and I've kind of gotten too busy to do it over the years. So it's a little bit of a personal theme as well!  I hope you enjoyed them, and don't forget to check out what the other ladies came up with for today!

It's day two of the Black and White challenge with The Digital Dozen!  Today I wanted to try a new design and as you can see, it did not go so well!  I think I needed to choose different colors because my ring finger sort of just looks like some blobs.  But I still had fun with it.  The inspiration was Citizen Kane. A black and white film by Orson Welles.  I've seen the film a few times and honestly, I'm not super impressed by it but apparently it's supposed to be the greatest American film of all time. In either event at the end of the film he dies with a snowglobe in his hand and the last words he utters are "Rosebud".  It ends up that this is a childhood sled he had, which is the only happy memory he has of his entire life. Sad, no? I made some red rose buds to sort of emulate this.  I hope you liked it and don't forget to check out the other girls artwork for day two!!

The Digital Dozen Does...Black and White

Well it's time for another week of fun with The Digital Dozen!! This week our theme is Black and White. It's an interesting theme because it seems very straight forward and yet it's also very open to interpretation.  I started simple today with this dotticure.  It was one of those that I liked better from a distance! A Tribute to Work, Play, Polish

Today's post is bittersweet. For quite some time now we've had Leslie, of Work, Play, Polish, as a fixture in The Digital Dozen.  It's been such a joy to have her in the group. She does AMAZING art and she's always so sweet and supportive. But sadly, all good things must come to an end and  Leslie has had to leave the group. I certainly wish her all the best and even though she won't be posting with The Digital Dozen anymore, I'll be following along her amazing blog every month anyway! Today I wanted to join up with the other girls in the group and give Leslie a proper goodbye!  So I've recreated a mani Leslie did for Love and Heartbreak week with The Digital Dozen! I hope I did it a little bit of justice. You can see her original design below...

Flashback Friday: Pop Art!

It's the final day of the Digital Dozen Skittle Challenge and for today we're going to have a little Flashback Friday! The nails you see above come to you all the way from back in March of 2011 when I had just started blogging and was very new to the world of free hand nail art! In fact, Pop Art! was the fourth post to ever hit my little blog.  I had these weird decals I got somewhere and I wanted to use one and it sort of ended up with this! I used a stamp for the dots and I was so very proud of myself for that free handed word on the bottom! Those were the days before clean-up (and the days when I still REALLY needed it!) and before I bothered really worrying about a uniform shape for my nails. So how did the flash forward come out?


I used primary colors this time since they're more pop art than neons. I still had a decal but it looks kind of spongy now! I don't mind it though cause it reminds me of how my brush art sometimes looks when I don't want to be heavy handed.  I freehanded my dots this go round as well although they're not as uniform as I'd like so I almost wish I'd stuck to stamping! All in all though, I prefer the new look! Which is your favorite?

Three's a crowd...

It's day four of The Digital Dozen's skittle challenge! Today is kind of a throwaway! I had some new stamping polish I picked up super cheap at my local Five Below and I wanted to try it out PLUS I've been itching to try free hand tiger and giraffe so it kind of came together from that! The stamping polish is kind of a fail. It's no darker than my regular black polish and it also smeared a little. Otherwise I'm pretty happy with these nails though! I wish I had used a different color for the leopard because it kind of runs into the design and for some reason the nude background made my light brown color look purple-ish. But you win some you lose some! Don't forget to check out what the other ladies came up with for today!!

The Digit-al Dozen does....SKITTLES

It's Skittle Week over at The Digit-al Dozen!  For day one I decided to do a sort of reverse gradient type of look.  First I polished my nails in gradually darker colors from index to pinky. Then I reversed the order and added the gradient to the tips.  It came out pretty nicely although the middle two nails had a much more subtle change than the outer two and it wasn't incredibly obvious in person! Having as much polish as I do it was a lot harder than I expected to find the right blues to do this with. Some were too green or too purple....but I made it work!

It's day six of the Digit-al Dozen's celebration series, The Digit-al Dozen, Does it All Again! 
Today's theme is Love and Heartbreak. Last time this theme came round I used it as an opportunity to make warm, fuzzy, red and pink nail combinations and get all the lovey dovey Valentines Day cooties out. :P  THIS time I wanted to avoid all things pink, lovey and resembling anything Valentines Day! I wanted instead to do something more abstract.  So...I've done a Romeo and Juliet theme! To me, their story is sort of the epitome of love AND heartbreak and it's also one of my favorite plays so it's kind of a win/win for me.  Obviously there are MILLIONS of versions of Romeo and Juliet but I've chosen to base my nails on the version I feel is most recognizable today and that is the Baz Luhrmann 1996 film version.  So here we go:

 On my index finger I have some textured "armor" to represent our ostracized hero Romeo. On my middle, the cross which makes up the "AND" in the title and on my ring some sparkly wings to represent Juliet a la the picture you see above. In the picture you can also see that Romeo is turned, to show his arm while Juliet faces forward showing both wings. This is the imagery I was kind of going for! My pinky is almost a throwaway, I didn't want to take too much away from the other two but it's a rocky grey to represent the stone wall where Romeo recites his famous lines to Juliet under her window. I hope you enjoy my out of the box nail art for the day!

Sugar Skulls

It's day two of the Digit-al Dozen's celebration series, The Digit-al Dozen, Does it All Again!  Today's design theme is Halloween.  Halloween is one of my most favorite times of year! I love dressing up and going to the parties and the fall weather! I can't wait for it to come around again! Today I decided to do a design based on sugar skulls.  I've seen a lot of people doing them and I haven't tried them yet so I thought now was as good a time as any! I found these super easy to do with just a simple dotting tool. I added a bit of glitter to make them more fun and sparkly but the great thing about them is that you can fancy them up any way you like!  Please don't forget to enter the September Specatcular for your chance to win a $200 gift card! It's the first day in the Digit-al Dozen's year anniversary series, The Digit-al Dozen does it all...AGAIN!  I'm really excited to relive the themes from the last year with you.  Last September we did blue as a theme and if you remember, I chose to use the Deborah Lippmann shade, Let's Hear it for the Boy as a base color and to build on it all week long. In a nod to that design I have chosen to use the same base color and to use some varying shades of blue to make a waterfall manicure!
